From No School to New Hope: The Story of Providence School
From No School to New Hope: The Story of Providence School
In a remote village called Burpong Community, children once grew up without a school.
There were no nearby classrooms, no place to learn, and no access to formal education. For years, education was not a matter of choice—it was a matter of distance.
Everything began to change when a group of villagers living near the border of South Sudan reached out to Pastor Martin. They did not ask for money or buildings. Instead, they donated land so a MissionPoint could begin.
Through Amigos Internacionales, a water well was drilled, and a local church was planted. These efforts met critical physical and spiritual needs, and hope began to take root in Burpong Community.
During a visit to the water well, conversations with local villagers revealed a heartbreaking reality: the nearest school was more than 30 kilometers away. For children in Burpong, attending school would have meant walking that distance every day. For most families, that journey was impossible. As a result, children stayed home—not because they didn’t want to learn, but because there was nowhere for them to go.
Faced with this reality, a clear decision was made: if the children could not reach a school, the school would come to them. That decision became Providence School.
Building the Foundation: Phase 1
Phase 1 of Providence School focused on creating a safe, functional environment for learning. This included the construction of a five-classroom block, security fencing, kitchen facilities, latrines, and a space for children to learn and play.
After the school was initiated, a donor learned about the need and stepped forward with a $100,000 donation, fully funding Phase 1. Because of this generosity, 145 children now have access to education within their own community—no longer facing a 30-kilometer walk just to attend school.
The impact of Providence School extended beyond infrastructure. A small local church heard about the school and responded in a powerful way. The children of that church came together and raised $458 to purchase chairs and blackboards for students they had never met. Representatives from the church personally delivered the chairs, not as charity, but as an act of shared mission and solidarity.
Where We Are Now
Phase 1 is now nearing completion. Providence School stands as living proof that access to education changes everything. Children who once had no path forward are now sitting in classrooms—learning, growing, and dreaming of a future that was once out of reach.
Looking Ahead: Phase 2
We are now preparing for Phase 2 of Providence School. This next phase will include additional classrooms and playground equipment, expanding the school’s capacity and opening the doors to another 125 students.
Phase 2 represents more than growth—it represents opportunity. More children choosing learning over limitation. Hope over hardship.
What began as donated land became a water well.
What became a church revealed a deeper need.
And that need became a school.
Providence School exists because people chose to act when the gap became visible. It is not just a building—it is a future, being written one child at a time.
Moved by Compassion. Motivated by the Gospel. Mobilized to Serve.
