Help Alfred Heal – Burn Survivor in Uganda Needs Surgery
Meet Alfred: A Brave 12-Year-Old Burn Survivor
After surviving a devastating fire, Alfred has had to relearn what many of us take for granted. Simple movements once brought pain. Daily tasks required strength beyond his age. But even in the midst of hardship, Alfred never lost his will to heal.
Because of compassionate support and dedicated care, Alfred has already made remarkable progress. He has regained mobility. The pain that once defined his days no longer holds the same power over him. Each step forward is a testament to what hope, love, and community can accomplish together.
Still, Alfred’s journey is not finished. Healing from severe burns takes time, consistency, and continued medical care. What lies ahead is not just recovery, but the chance for Alfred to live fully, freely, and without limitations.
This is the heart of what Amigos exists for. To stand with children like Alfred, not only in moments of crisis, but throughout the long road to restoration. To remind them they are not forgotten. To ensure their story continues beyond survival.
Alfred’s future is brighter because people chose compassion. With continued support, his story will become one of complete healing, renewed confidence, and hope realized.
The Horrors of South Sudan’s War: Why Children Like Alfred Suffer
South Sudan’s history is marked by brutal conflict and unimaginable human suffering. Since independence in 2011, the nation has endured repeated civil wars, ethnic massacres, and attacks on civilians. Hospitals and schools — lifelines for communities — have been bombed, leaving millions without access to basic care.
- In May 2025, a bombing destroyed the only hospital serving 110,000 people in Fangak County (Reuters).
- Reports from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum document widespread atrocities, including killings, sexual violence, and forced displacement.
For thousands of children, this means living with the trauma of violence — and for some, like Alfred, life-threatening injuries that require urgent surgical care.
