April Report from Malawi: Faith, Growth, and Urgent Needs in Mulanje
Through Amigos Internacionales, MissionPoint Malawi, and Agape Baptist Church Malawi, lives are being transformed in the Mulanje district through evangelism, church planting, and practical care.
This April ministry update from Apostle Victor Vincent Phiri highlights both spiritual fruit and urgent community needs. As the church grows, families in Mulanje continue to face major challenges related to clean water, food insecurity, and access to healthcare.
A Growing Ministry in Mulanje
Amigos Internacionales and MissionPoint Malawi are reaching more people in Mulanje through local church ministry and community outreach. At this time, three Agape Baptist Church branches are actively serving families in the region.
- SOPA Agape Baptist Church – 87 people
- Mombo Agape Baptist Church – 162 people
- Maoni Agape Baptist Church – 163 people
Together, these three congregations now serve 412 people. Even more encouraging, the ministry expects continued growth as more churches are planted in other parts of Mulanje.
31 People Accepted Christ in April
During April outreach efforts, more than 31 people accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This is a powerful sign that the Gospel is reaching unreached people and changing lives in a lasting way.
Through outreach, discipleship, and local church leadership, MissionPoint Malawi is building a foundation for long-term spiritual growth. Each new believer also represents a new opportunity for follow-up, encouragement, and community transformation.
Urgent Needs in the Community
Alongside this ministry growth, Victor’s report identifies three serious needs affecting families and church members in the Mulanje district.
1. Access to Safe Drinking Water
More than 500 people in the area do not have access to safe drinking water. Many depend on unreliable or unsafe water sources for daily use, and in the SOPA area some families must walk up to 5 kilometers to collect water.
Clean water remains one of the most urgent needs in rural communities across Malawi. UNICEF notes that borehole support, household water treatment, and water quality protection remain essential for vulnerable families in Malawi. Read more from UNICEF.
You can learn more about this work on our Clean Water page and our Malawi mission page.
2. Hunger and Food Insecurity
More than 500 church members across the three branches are currently facing hunger. Some families are going to sleep without food because of poor harvests and the inability to afford basic meals.
The World Food Programme reports that Malawi remains highly vulnerable to food insecurity because so many livelihoods depend on agriculture and are easily disrupted by climate shocks and weak harvests. Read more from the World Food Programme.
3. Distance to Healthcare
Families in Mulanje also struggle to reach medical care. Many must travel around 10 kilometers just to access healthcare services, making treatment difficult for children, the elderly, and those facing urgent illness.
UNDP Malawi has also highlighted that healthcare access remains a serious challenge in rural communities, which adds important context to the daily barriers many families in Mulanje face. Read more from UNDP Malawi.
Hope Through the Care for Humanity Vision
Through Amigos Internacionales, MissionPoint Malawi, and the Care for Humanity vision, the goal is not just short-term relief. The mission is to help communities move from daily struggle toward lasting hope through the Gospel, local churches, compassion, and practical support.
This reflects the broader work of Amigos Internacionales, which focuses on transforming forgotten villages through clean water, education, medical care, and local church partnership.
Why Unity Matters in Ministry
Victor also emphasizes the importance of unity in the Christian faith. Unity in Christ strengthens the church, builds healthy relationships, and helps believers work together toward a common mission.
In John 17:21–23, Jesus prayed that His followers would be one so that the world would believe. In Malawi, that spirit of unity is helping local churches grow stronger and reach more people with the love of Christ.
