After decades of walking alongside vulnerable communities through surgical missions, mobile outreaches, and emergency relief, Amigos Internacionales and Doctors on Mission International are stepping into a new season of impact with the launch of Gilead Clinics. These monthly clinics, strategically planted at each Mission Point, are more than just health posts—they are beacons of consistent care, spiritual encouragement, and sustainable transformation.
Why Gilead?
The name Gilead is drawn from the biblical reference to the “balm of Gilead” (Jeremiah 8:22), a healing ointment long associated with restoration and wholeness. By choosing this name, we affirm our commitment to holistic healing: not only treating illness but restoring dignity, hope, and community well-being.
For generations, rural communities across Africa have faced chronic barriers to healthcare. Clinics are far apart, medicines often unavailable, and specialist care is out of reach. A one-time mission camp provides life-saving help, but the need for ongoing, local, and accessible healthcare remains immense. Gilead Clinics are our answer to that need.

The Vision
Each Gilead Clinic will serve as a bridge—between emergency relief and long-term development, between physical healing and spiritual renewal. We envision these clinics as hubs where:
- Primary healthcare is accessible: Families can receive basic consultations, preventative care, and ongoing follow-up.
- Specialized services are available regularly: Eye, dental, and maternal care are provided through scheduled rotations of volunteer professionals.
- Community empowerment takes root: By training local health workers and integrating community leaders, each clinic builds resilience from the inside out.
This initiative directly aligns with our mission: to bring grace in every touch and healing in every visit.
Why Now?
The data is undeniable. Across sub-Saharan Africa:
- An estimated half of the population lacks access to essential health services (World Health Organization).
- Rural areas continue to face severe shortages of trained medical staff, with ratios as low as one physician per 10,000 residents in some regions (National Library of Medicine).
- Preventable diseases like malaria, pneumonia, and cataracts remain leading causes of death and disability, despite being treatable at the community level (UNICEF).
Against this backdrop, our medical missions have shown us what is possible: villages transformed by cataract surgeries, lives extended through cancer screenings, and communities lifted through compassionate care. But short-term missions are not enough. Gilead Clinics ensure continuity, turning moments of impact into movements of change.
Internal Commitment
Gilead Clinics are not a side project; they are a natural extension of our DNA. Amigos Internacionales has always believed in sustainable development through healthcare, education, and faith-driven community building (Amigos Medical Missions). Likewise, Doctors on Mission International has committed itself to volunteer-driven healthcare access, guided by the values of faith, integrity, and love (Doctors on Mission). Together, this partnership creates fertile ground for a program like Gilead Clinics to thrive.
A Call to Action
As we plant the first Gilead Clinics, we invite you—our partners, supporters, and friends—to journey with us. Every donation, every volunteer hour, every prayer, helps establish places of healing where none existed before. With your support, we can make Gilead Clinics a testimony: that even in the most remote villages, grace and healing are not far away.
Grace in every touch. Healing in every visit. Welcome to Gilead Clinics.
