Short-term mission trips can be powerful. But real transformation — the kind that reshapes communities for generations — requires something deeper: faithful, sustained presence over time.
At Amigos Internacionales, we have spent years learning what sustainable Christian missions in East Africa actually looks like. And it looks very different from what most people expect.
The Problem with Parachute Missions
Many mission organizations fly in, do good work, take photos, and leave. Communities are grateful for the help. But the well breaks and no one knows how to fix it. The school is built but teachers are not trained or paid. The church plants without local leaders and fades.
Amigos Internacionales was founded on a different conviction: you cannot love people you do not know, and you cannot know people you do not stay with.
Introducing the MissionPoint Model
Our MissionPoint model is a proven framework for holistic, Gospel-centered community development. In each MissionPoint community, we work to establish five interconnected pillars:
A local church — The spiritual center of the community, led by trained local pastors. Faith is not a footnote to our work; it is the foundation.
A school — Children need quality education. We build and support schools that give vulnerable children — including South Sudanese refugees — a path forward.
Clean water — Safe water is essential to everything else. We drill wells and train communities to maintain them.
Life skills training — Especially for women and youth, practical skills create economic independence and dignity.
Food security — Through gardens, farming programs, and food relief, we fight the hunger that keeps communities trapped.
In Ogul Village, Uganda, all five pillars are in place. The community is not just surviving — it is leading, growing, and sharing its own story of transformation.
Our Reach Across East Africa
Today, Amigos Internacionales is active in Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi, and beyond. We partner with local Baptist churches, community leaders, and grassroots organizations who know their communities far better than any outsider ever could. Our role is to resource, support, and walk alongside — not to control or dictate.
We work with communities in Gulu, Pawik, Lamwo, Padibe, Burpong, and surrounding areas in Northern Uganda. We are planting churches, training pastors, building schools, drilling wells, and seeing lives transformed — one family at a time.
Faith-Driven Development That Lasts
The most sustainable development work is always rooted in the dignity and agency of local communities. We believe every person is made in the image of God — with value, potential, and the capacity to contribute to their community. Our motto says it plainly: Because every child is a person of value, has unlimited potential, and can contribute to make their world better.
That belief shapes everything we do. It is why we stay. It is why we build relationships that last decades. And it is why the communities we serve are not our projects — they are our partners.
